‘미안하다’는 말은 세 가지 메시지를 동시에 전달한다.

첫째, ‘제 탓입니다’, 둘째, ‘나는 당신을 존중합니다.’

셋째, ‘나는 당신과의 관계를 소중하게 생각합니다.’

관계회복에 진심을 담아 미안하다고 사과하는 것 보다 효과적인 것은 없다.

그래서 나는 ‘sorry’라는 단어를 마법의 단어, magic word라고 부른다.

먼저 ‘미안하다’고 말하기가 쉽지 않습니다. 그러나 미안하다고 사과하는 것을 부끄러워 할 이유가 없습니다. ‘미안하다’는 말은 생각보다 효과가 큽니다.

눈을 피하면서 마지못해 입으로만 사과하지 말고

상대방의 눈을 쳐다보면서 진심으로 미안한 마음을 전달하는 것이 중요합니다.
